Normal Stress:

A measure of a load perpendicular to the surface of a test object in force/area.

Normal Strain:

The amount an object deforms as a result of stress, measured in new length/original length.

Tensile Test:

A test designed to show how much a given material will deform until it loses elasticity or fails altogether.
